I am learning Russian and I have confusions with the declensions of игорь, николай and наталия

I can read very slowly in Russian and I am trying to speed up. What is holding me back are the Russian letters that look similar to English letters but have different sounds. The letters-- such as x, у, г(looks like an r), я, and especially р- just look too familiar. Is there a way I can better learn to associate these with Russian sounds when I am reading?

I want my 4 yr old (adopted from Russia) to learn Russian. I brought him home at 13 mths so he doesn't know the language. I have Rosetta Stone but he really doesn't like doing it. Any other thoughts? I know that immersion is the best option and having other people speak it to him is the best option, but right now I want him to hear it and at least get used to hearing it.

I use "Google translate". It is free, user friendly and easy to download from Google. It is not gramatically correct but it gets the message across.

Complaints about non-delivery reached Beijing: hospitals and kindergartens in Leningard, for instance, were out of rice in the middle of winter.

Жалобы (nominative) в недостаьки(instrumental) достигала бегинь(prepositional): больницы и детской в Ленинграде (prepositional), например, были наскончился рисови за посреди в зимe (prepostional).

I admit this is very very confusing for me. Nonetheless, after your corrections the rest would shed more light..

As a matter of curiousity, in your experience how did you go about learning russian, was it a gradual process or did you immerse yourselves in the deep end of learning?

Is there a large Russian community in Dubai? I noticed some Belarussian ladies but I think they were more 'ladies of the night' I'd like to improve on my basic Russian and at this stage I'm not sure if my employer will have measures in place to assist with tutoring.

One summer afternoon the lady who would one day be my wife and I were going somewhere and we'd gotten off the bus and were walking along a busy street. She stopped, pointed to one of the many advertising signs and said, "read it to me. In Russian."

I did, but it was a halting struggle.

She turned meet me face to face and asked, "are you serious about learning to speak Russian, and to speak without accent?" I said yes.
