Mixing Up Letters

Stain - Feb 23, 2012 at 07:44

I can read very slowly in Russian and I am trying to speed up. What is holding me back are the Russian letters that look similar to English letters but have different sounds. The letters-- such as x, у, г(looks like an r), я, and especially р- just look too familiar. Is there a way I can better learn to associate these with Russian sounds when I am reading?

Thanks

The main rule here is: Practice makes perfect. First of all, make sure you can easily complete exercises on the page Learn Russian alphabet: Lesson 2.

Plus, work more with Russian vocabulary, for example, on our website - Vocabulary section, where you can Russian words with translation and pronunciation. The more words you know, the better and faster you read.

Also, we recommend you to read Russian texts aloud, one text several times. You can find texts for reading here
